About the
Packaging Forum

Created in 2006, The Packaging Forum is a membership organisation that provides a forum to ensure the industry is a credible partner for collaboration on sustainable outcomes for packaging. It also works to develop and promote litter reduction and best-practice product stewardship solutions for packaging.

The Forum works in four key areas:

Advocacy:

For policy that achieves the highest sustainability outcomes

  • Advocate for the right policy settings which allow industry to maximise product stewardship outcomes for packaging
  • Advocate for policy settings that help achieve the highest value sustainability outcomes for packaging

Promotion:

Promote solutions that enable all packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 or earlier

Grow our membership to ensure that New Zealand’s packaging industry is represented across the supply chain as widely as possible

  • Promote consumer and end-user responsibility to do the right thing
  • Promote solutions to private/public sector and communities
  • Mutual promotion of membership to amplify the Forum’s messages, drive new membership and build recognition of the efforts of both parties towards sustainable packaging

  • Encourage stakeholder collaboration so there is a wider and deeper understanding of the role members play and the ownership we can take in facilitating the right solutions for packaging – from design to end-of-life
  • Identify who we need to work with to help us deliver our 2025 pledge
