Do you have an idea that could transform the way packaging is designed, recovered and recycled in New Zealand?
The Innovation Fund supports projects that help improve how packaging is designed, used, collected, recycled and reused in New Zealand.
We support practical, innovative solutions, from new packaging materials and product design, through to recycling collection and infrastructure ideas, community initiatives, consumer engagement and research.
Applications are considered quarterly in January, April, July and October. Smaller projects may be considered outside of these funding rounds where appropriate.
We support projects that:
Glass Recycling Accelerator Fund
Supporting projects that improve outcomes for glass bottles and jars, including:
Resource Recovery & Public Place Litter
Helping organisations reduce litter and improve recycling in public places.
The Future Fund
Supporting innovative projects across the packaging value chain, including:
Projects must support the recovery, recycling or improved management of one or more of the following packaging materials:
Funding may be available for:
Co-funding and multi-year opportunities may be considered where appropriate.

Every innovation starts with an idea.
For many years, our funding programmes have helped organisations, communities and innovators trial new approaches to reducing packaging waste and improving Resource Recovery outcomes in New Zealand.
These projects have ranged from local infrastructure and public engagement initiatives through to research and innovation projects, each contributing to a more sustainable packaging system.
The Innovation Fund builds on this legacy, supporting both practical solutions and bold new ideas that can drive meaningful change across New Zealand.
Now, we’re looking for the next generation of ideas. Projects with the potential to deliver an even greater impact for packaging sustainability in New Zealand.
